I am a bicultural and bilingual therapist who provides psychotherapy services in English and Spanish. My therapeutic approach is culturally responsible, client-directed, and rooted in social justice values. I prioritize your needs by forming a warm, solid, and strong therapeutic relationship.
One of the most empowering factors in my life has been spending 32 years as an Air Force Military Spouse. This empowered me to grow and learn through lived experiences in diverse groups. I’ve been a clinical social worker and prior substance abuse counselor for 30+ years working in a public agency, private practice, and with the US Army at Fort Carson, Colorado and at SHAPE, Belgium. I work across all ages to include both adults and children. In addition to my MSW in clinical social worker, I have an advanced graduate degree in Infant and Early Childhood Special Education Leadership and a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Diversity Studies.
My journey began as a deeply personal quest for healing, shaped by significant challenges such as abandonment, neglect, and trauma. Overcoming hardships like poverty, familial substance abuse, and toxic relationships led me to a lifelong struggle with anxiety and feelings of isolation. In my search for relief, I explored countless self-help resources, pursued degrees in psychology, and experimented with therapeutic techniques, yet nothing seemed to offer lasting change.
Everything shifted for me about three years ago when I experienced a transformative moment that inspired the creation of the Blue Lotus Approach. This method has not only helped me heal but has also profoundly impacted my clients, guiding them toward self-awareness and resilience.
You may be feeling overwhelmed, no matter what you do, the memories, tension, or sense of unease just won’t let up. Maybe you’re on edge, easily startled, or finding it hard to relax. Perhaps you feel numb or detached from the people you care about—or the past keeps intruding on your present through flashbacks, nightmares, or sudden waves of emotion. If you’re exhausted by the weight of trauma, distressing memories, or emotional disconnection, you are not alone. I work with adolescents, adults, and families to navigate the effects of trauma, post-traumatic stress, and emotional pain with compassion and clarity.
I have a strong nursing background with experience in ICU settings as well as both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry. I’ve also worked in adolescent behavioral/mental health residential programs, which has given me a well-rounded understanding of mental health across different stages of life.
My interest in mental health began during my military service as a Survival Instructor in the United States Airforce. During this time, I had the privilege of teaching students from all walks of life the skills to survive in any environment. I became fascinated with human behavior, stress management/responses and the profound capabilities of the mind, body and spirit when faced with adversity. While navigating through the wilderness, a waypoint is defined as "a stop along ones journey." It is a safe place where the traveler can take shelter, rest, gain insight on where they've been, accept and honor where they are, and determine their way forward. It's a place for healing. This is what I strive to provide for my clients. I completed my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Northwestern University. I have experience counseling couples, teens, adult individuals, and groups. As an Airforce veteran, I have a passion for serving military members and their families. Other interests include working with blended families, and LGBTQ+ individuals and their parents
